At McLeod Nursery School, we strive to create a safe, caring, and positive learning environment for all children, staff, and families. We believe in the equality of all people and respect diversity. To maintain this environment, all individuals involved with our centre—board of directors, staff, children, parents/guardians, and others—are expected to adhere to our Code of Conduct.

Creating a Positive Environment

- Planning programs based on children’s interests and needs.
- Establishing consistent schedules and routines that help children feel secure.
- Building positive relationships by taking time to talk and listen.
- Clearly stating and reinforcing limits and rules in a positive manner.
Proactive Strategies
To manage behaviour, teachers will:
- Remind individuals of expectations and limits.
- Use respectful, empathetic approaches to explain inappropriate behaviour and expected behaviour.
- Address the behaviour, not label the person.
- Encourage problem-solving through communication and cooperation.
- Provide natural and logical consequences for inappropriate behaviour.
Consequences for Inappropriate Behaviour
In the case of persistent or serious disruptive behaviour, further steps may include:
- Behaviour analysis to identify underlying causes and solutions.
- Meetings with parents to discuss concerns and create action plans.
- Written contracts outlining expectations and consequences.
- Accessing outside resources such as behaviour specialists, mediation services, or parenting support.
In extreme cases, the following actions may be taken:
- Suspension or dismissal of a staff member.
- Suspension or withdrawal of child care services due to a child’s or family member’s behaviour.
- Banning individuals from returning to the centre.
